When You Wish Upon a Brazilet Bracelet, Wishes Come True

Brazilets wish bracelets
After working with labels such as Vera Wang, Sara Campbell and Saks Fifth Avenue, Kael Robinson called it quits in 2007, deciding to set out and discover the world. In Brazil, she came across a 200 year-old tradition from mystical Bahia - Wish Bracelets which came with these instructions: “Wrap your Brazilet around your wrist and tie three knots, making a wish with each knot. When your Brazilet naturally breaks down and falls off, it is believed that your three wishes will come true."
Nine months later when Kael’s Brazilet fell off, all three of her wishes had come true, including starting her own business: Live Brazilian - an online marketplace for traditional Brazilian products and Brazilets. "I couldn’t believe that my wishes came true the first time I wore a Brazilet,” adds Kael. "I knew right then that I wanted to share them with the rest of the world." Brazilets have now become a fave of celebs including Lauren Conrad, Susan Sarandon, Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart, Pixie Geldof and Camilla Belle - all of who have all wished upon a knot.

Brazilets wish granting bracelets
Along with granting wishes, 20% of the proceeds from Brazilets go to environmental charities like Plant A BillionBrazilets celebs, a worldwide group dedicated to planting at least one billion new trees - starting with the most endangered forest in Brazil: the Atlantic Forest.
Brazilets are available in a range of colors, including pink for Breast Cancer and red for AIDS Awareness. Retailing at $5 a piece (or $70 for a wish pack of 14...why not give some to a friend?), it's an easy way to make your wishes reality and help a great cause.
Available at Brazilets.com.

Melvita Channels the Wisdom of the Bees into Effective Eco Beauty ProductsMelvita Channels the Wisdom of the Bees into Effective Eco Beauty Products

Melvita natural organic bee skin care skincare
Typically, notions of "industrial scale" and "reverence for nature" do not exactly keep company, which is part of what makes Bernard Chevilliat such an unusual organic-beauty entrepreneur.
After moving to the beautiful wide-open Ardèche region in South-Central France in the late 1970s, the biologist-turned-apiarist started a small bee farm which eventually morphed into a family affair with over 500 hundred hives and an elegant hexagonal soap made from homegrown bee goodness. Moisturizers followed, along with treatment serums, deodorants, plant oils, bath & shower goodies, fragrances, and supplements like flower pollen (for beauty from within), and MELVITA is now L'Occitane's sister company and the country's leading brand of natural, eco-friendly (and certified!) organic skin care products companies.
The company's name comes from "mel", from the French for honey (le miel), and "vita", or life, and acknowledges the "extraordinary confluence" between the worlds of plants and animals. "Our roots are the bees, our dear bees, the valiant pollinators which fertilize the world," says Chevilliat. "Bees are the fragile witnesses of the excesses of science and industry. Their disappearance would be a calamity and shame us all...Faced with the combined assaults of industrial chemistry and parasites, the world of bees was already, in my eyes, a reminder of the world’s increasing fragility, because a world without bees would be a world without flowers, fruit, beauty. This was why, from the outset, I wanted to place 'nature at heart' of our approach and of our ecological and humanistic concerns. MELVITA is resolutely organic, because we are convinced that the organic commitment is one of the keys to the future of the planet."
Their corporate philosophy includes using completely recyclable packaging materials, not engaging in animal testing, and using organically-farmed and responsibly-harvested sources that respect Mother Nature. "We are involved in a pro-active approach to sustainable development, with preservation of environmental: beauty, biodiversity, and balance." They are also committed to making their products effective and attractive (they are, after all, French) meaning nothing too hippie-dippie or patchouli'ish - just stylishly packaged skincare and supplements that work.
Melvita skin care flower plant essences When growing demand demanded a recent doubling of their production facilities, Chevilliat continued walking a path where industry and eco coexist in peace. "Melvita will not lower our standards for environmental protection," he explains about the now 5-acre site which was originally designed to blend into the surrounding landscape and even includes a wastewater treatment system. "An ambitious eco-construction project will begin proving that even on an industrial scale, we humans can still work together to look after the planet."
Also, be sure to check out the video interview with Chevilliat, where he discusses how he got started, his philosophy of life...and apparently uses his own skincare because he has the most amazing skin.

Gianfranco Ferre Does Diet Coke & Dresses up Coca-Cola Light Bottles for Charity

Having a bunch of famous fashion designers "re-imagine" the Diet Coke bottle may seem a tad frivolous, however the reason is anything but: cystic fibrosis - an inherited genetic disorder that, amongst other things, renders almost anyone who has it, male or female, infertile. And the Coca-Cola "Tribute to Fashion" event hosted in cooperation with the Fashion, Events and Design Commission of the City of Milan is helping raise awareness and funds for the 2010 “Women Reseachers for Cystic Fibrosis” Project.
For the second edition of this special initiative, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, Creative Directors of Gianfranco Ferré, drew inspiration from four of the house's signatures: a rich croc texture, an Obi belt, a white silk shirt, and the brand’s identifying symbol: the Signature Pin - all of which celebrate the famous Contour bottle.
Coca cola light diet coke fashion designer bottles

The designs by the various participating fashion brands - including Salvatore Ferragamo & Armani Jeans - were unveiled last night at an exclusive Charity event held in the botanical garden created for the occasion in the inner courtyard of Palazzo Marino at Milan City Hall. During the course of the evening, a number of bottles were auctioned off, and Ferre's Signature Pin and Obi belt with fuchsia bow versions are now both available at all La Rinascente department stores throughout Italy. “We are enthusiastic about our role in this initiative," explain Aquilano & Rimondi. "We found the idea of creating a bond between this distinctive object and the Gianfranco Ferré style, interpreting the bottle’s curvy shape through the House’s code of elegance, particularly stimulating.” Adds Ferre's Michela Piva: "Gianfranco Ferré, during this current period of major strategic renewal, looks to the future sharing the same values of energy, solidity and reliability which have made Coca-Cola one of the legends of our times. We took great joy in making a contribution to such an important project, one where fashion and solidarity join forces."

Now You Can Shop for the Greater Good (Really!) Thanks to NOVICA

We were recently given the opportunity to try out NOVICA.com, an online marketplace specializing in handmade goodies by talented artists and artisans from around the globe. We thoroughly enjoyed reading the in-depth bios and "meeting" the various artists as we browsed the broad selection of handcrafted leather bags, paintings, home decor, fashions, and jewelry - which covered a wide range of pricepoints starting at around the $20 mark and on up. And when our necklace arrived, it was carefully wrapped in layers of tissue paper and nestled in a beautiful handmade-paper box with a note from the artist: the lovely Matta Nandrakwang. A gemology school graduate, she was born in Chiang Rai - the northernmost province in Thailand (next to Burma) - a region rich with gems which helped spark her lifelong passion for bling. "Ever since I was a young girl, I have been enamored with the hill tribe people's love of jewelry," she explains in her bio. "I regularly saw people around me wearing jewelry. I recall seeing a hill tribe girl my age, seven at the time, wearing beautiful silver jewelry accessorizing her colorful costume. She had silver coins hanging around her face, more silver ornaments on her, as well as beautiful beads. I couldn't take my eyes off her! I don't remember exactly what I said to my father about her, but remember clearly that afterwards I got my first gold ring with a little blue star sapphire. I felt I was on top of the world."

Giorgio Armani Fall 2009 Beauty: Smoky Shades of Greige

The Fall 2009 face at Giorgio Armani Beauty contrasts a fresh, luminous complexion against a muted, almost monotone lip in soft plum (armanisilk Lipsilk in 92) - a blue/grey alternative to beige which adds intensity to the lip without taking away focus from the main event: the new smoky eye created using deep Greige tones. The star of the fall beauty lineup is undoubtedly the Manta Ray Eye Duo Palette, inspired by the brand's luxurious fashion accessories and rendered in an exotic, stippled pattern for creating subtle contours and highlights. “Eye shadow is about shading, and rather than adding shadows, these muted tones contour and define, accentuating the eye and the pupil; the focus is actually on the eye itself," notes celeb makeup artist Linda Cantello. "My favorite is the Greige and charcoal duo shade palette, but the pale lilac grey and fuchsia offer a really beautiful pop of color.” For contrast, try adding a sweep of slick of fast-drying, long-lasting Liquid Silk Eye Liner in intense Matte Charcoal Gray or Midnight Metallic Blue.

Cantello explains how to create the Armani runway "Greige" eye:

1. Contour the eye by sweeping the Greige shade along the crease of the eye. Then sweep the shade under the lower lash line and over the upper lash line. Add intensity with charcoal.

2.  A second option is to sweep the charcoal shadow over the whole lid, using the Greige to blend. For added intensity, apply midnight blue eyeliner along the upper lid lash line.

Giorgio Armani makeup is available at GiorgioArmaniBeauty-USA.com.
